OUR WINE VARIETALS

 CHARDONNAY:

30 Acres, spaced 7 x 11

 These grapes were planted in 1998 on 1103 P rootstock.  Chardonnay is a white grape, which is the most popular white wine.  The vines are trained to unilateral cordons.  The trellis has 12 inch crossarms every other vine to simulate a vertical system. The grapes are  located on the Gobbi Ranch.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON:

20 Acres, spaced 8 x 12 planted in 1983 on AXR-1

7 Acres, spaced 7 x 12 planted in 1997 on 5BB

20 Acres, spaced 7 x 11 planted in 1999 on 110R

10 Acres, spaced 7 x 11 planted in 2000 on 110R

7 Acres, spaced 7 X 11 planted in 2001 on 110R

Cabernet is a red grape, which makes Cabernet wine and it is quickly becoming one of the best grapes for red  wines.  Twenty acres of the vines are trained on a quadrilateral cordon system.  The trellis for fifteen of the twenty acres has a 36” V crossarm every other stake and a 36” crossarm in between the V crossarm. Five acres of the twenty acres have a trellis which has a 12” V crossarm every other stake and a 12” crossarm in between the V crossarm.  Seven acres planted in 1997 are trained to bilateral cordons, with every other vine going in the opposite direction to form a quadrilateral system. The trellis for the seven acres has 36” V crossarms every other stake with 36” crossarms in between.  The thirty acres planted in 1999 and 2000 are trained to a unilateral cordon.  This has has a vertical trellis with highway posts every 4th stake and 5 foot t-posts in between the highway posts.  Twenty seven acres are located at the Gielow Ranch.  Thirty acres are  located on Sanford Ranch.

MERLOT:

7 Acres, spaced 8 x 12 planted in 1983 on AXR-1

2 Acres, spaced 6 x 10 planted in 1996 on 5BB

Merlot is a red grape which makes Merlot wine.  This wine has been a very popular wine.  Seven acres planted in 1983 are trained to quadrilateral cordons with two acres trellised having 36” V crossarms every other vine with 36” crossarms in between.  Five acres are trellised with 12” V crossarms every other with 12” crossarms in between.  Two acres planted in 1996 are bilateral cordons with each vine going in the opposite direction to form a quadrilateral system.  The trellis has 9’ stakes with two 36” crossarms 18” apart with 2 catch wires on each side of the crossarms.

CARIGNANE:

8 Acres planted 10 x 10

This block was acquired in 2000.  It is an old head trained vineyard. It produces a good quality Carignane wine, however the  vineyard will be pulled after the 2001 crop.  The variety to be planted has  not yet been determined.
